Here we are, a new year and a new season! This year the Enduro World Series kicked off in Rotorua, New Zealand. After a good winter of recovery and training I was excited to get back into the saddle and race. Photo by Sebastian Schieck

Conditions were prime in practice. 2 days of practice to get to know 7 special stages was a tough one with a lot of ground to cover. Photo by Sven Martin

Rolling out of the start gate on Sunday morning.... Ready for 8 hours on the bike, 64km, 2000m of climbing and rain on the way. Not knowing what the day was gonna bring.

And the day brought rain and mud!! First stage of the day went well with a 5th place finish and I was kinda looking forward to what this challenging day was going to bring.

Death grippin on stage 2.. :) The transfer times to get up to the stages were very tight and in conditions like these it was hard. It felt like a cross country race trying to make it in time to the start (we get a time penalty when we arrive too late).  Photo by Sven Martin

It was hard to stay consistent on the stages. After a big crash on stage 5 and losing a lot of time I had a hard time finding my flow again. I was so glad I made it to the feed zone after stage 5, I was hurting on the climb back up and needed to get some sugar, food and fluid in me. Time on the bike by now was 6 hours with 2 more stages to go.  Photo by Sebastian Schieck

Last stage of the day was a bit of a blur, close to cramping but also really pumped that I was close to finishing this race. Teammate Brook Macdonald cheering me on going into this last section was awesome!  Photo by Sebastian Schieck

This was definitely a memorable race, not the result I hoped for ending up in 10th, but glad I got to finish it without any major injuries and some points in my pocket for the overall. I will still be in Rotorua for another week and will compete in some more Crankworx events! After that we are off to Tasmania, Australia!!!  Photo by Sven Martin
